Handicrafts of Integrated People

The following are crafts that have been created by artisans within the Integrated People organization.  These crafts have been made from recyclable and reusable materials, promoting a sustainable world.  Some crafts take a few hours to make, while others may take days of searching for the correct materials or simple putting the craft together.

Pens

Made by Ambreen Munawar Ali. Ambreen bought pens and used left over threads to decorate the pens. The pens can have names written on them. These pens can be custom designed to the colors and name written on the pen. They can also have beaded butterflies and other decorative ornaments of the costumer wishes to have them.

Coin Pouches

Made by Zaida Khan. Made from rags of left over cloth from dresses. She bought the zipers to secure the pouches.

Laptop Bags

Craftsperson Unknown. Made with rags collected from tailors. Thin pieces of foam were sown into the design to provide cushion for laptop.

Cotton Table Mats

Made by Hamida Nadeem. Hamida used left over cotton cloth (solid colors) to make table mats. she stitched them with a machine she had at home. the thread she used was also left over thread. these mats come in a set of 6.

Plastic Table Mats

Made by Samina M. Amin. Samina put together a plastic in which Rice is sold. she used that packaging of the rice bori to create these table mats and on the edges of these table mats she put left over cloth. The packaging of rice in pakistan is done in a bag made of woven plastic. almost everyone throws this away unless the resell it for money. this kind of plastic is perfect for a table mat because it is ideal to spill drinks, milk and drop food. it can be easily washed and wont leave any marks.  Set of 4 and Set of 6

Bracelets - Made with Plastic Bags

Made by Tasleem Shahid Ahmed. Tasleem used left over plastic bags to make beautiful bracelets. She uses a combination of two or three different colors of plastic bags to create these bracelets. She gets the plastic bangs from her usually groceries. In Pakistan plastic bags are found all over the city on the streets. she collects them and sanitizes them and then weaves them to create bracelets.

Some of these bracelets are now also made by the flood victims at the NEEED camp. They have been sanitized and cleaned by the women working for integrated planet.

Sunglasses Cases

Our sunglass cases made by Zaida Khan are made from left over cloth that she had from her own stitching that she does. She sowed them together keeping in mind good color combinations and neatness.

Hair Bands

Made by Ambreen Munawar Ali. These hairbands are a little different from the others we make. these hairbands are made with rags collected from tailors. in this different types of cloth is sued together to create one piece. Once the base is complete, intricate hand-sown designs are added. When one wears it they have to tie it to adjust it to their own head size. this hairband can be worn my anyone, any age without any problem at all. 

Envelopes

Made by Bilquis Khan. Our envelopes are something new we have tried this time. this are made from an item called "bhukram" which is used to make collars for men shalwar kameez in Pakistan. Bilquis used bhukram and left over cloth to make these envelopes.

Intricate Belt

Made by Rehana Baloch. Made from left over cloth and left over threads. She used mirrors from an old balochi dress. These mirrors are commonly found in Pakistani cloths and are easy to take out and be reused. Many markets in Lyari take these mirrors out and sell these.

Bracelets Made with Jute

Made by Nazia M. Usman. Nazia weaves jute thread to create these bracelets. She gets this thread from "boris" a "bori" an urdu word for a big bag made of jute. Grains, wheat and rice come in these bags and once the rice or grains are finished these bori's are thrown away.
